Loss of coherence in double-slit diffraction experiments
Coherence is an important building block in physics, common to optics and quantum mechanics. In classical optics, it simply implies a phase condition related to interference. Its lack is related to the nature of the source of light snonmonochromaticityd and/or the geometrical shape of the objects placed on the source-detector pathway f1,2g. In this sense, incoherence can be regarded as a “nondy...
متن کاملQuantum games with a multi-slit electron diffraction setup
A setup is proposed to play a quantum version of the famous bimatrix game of Prisoners’ Dilemma. Multi-slit electron diffraction with each player’s pure strategy consisting of opening one of the two slits at his/her disposal are essential features of the setup. Instead of entanglement the association of waves with travelling material objects is suggested as another resource to play quantum games.
متن کاملPseudoscopic imaging in a double diffraction process with a slit.
Pseudoscopic images that keep a continuous parallax are shown to be possible due to a double diffraction process intermediated by a slit. One diffraction grating acts as a wavelength encoder of views while a second diffraction grating decodes the projected image. The process results in the enlargement of the image under common white light illumination.
متن کاملFraunhofer diffraction of light by human enamel.
Fraunhofer diffraction patterns of human enamel samples were photographed with a helium-neon laser beam (lambda = 633 nm). The first-order diffraction angle was in reasonable agreement with a prediction based upon enamel prisms acting as a two-dimensional grating. These results support the hypothesis that enamel diffracts light because of the periodic structure of enamel prisms with interprisma...
متن کاملFraunhofer Diffraction Effects on Total Power for a Planckian Source
An algorithm for computing diffraction effects on total power in the case of Fraunhofer diffraction by a circular lens or aperture is derived. The result for Fraunhofer diffraction of monochromatic radiation is well known, and this work reports the result for radiation from a Planckian source. The result obtained is valid at all temperatures.
